Description
Ultiflox (ciprofloxacin ophthalmic solution) is a topical anti-infective for ophthalmic use. Ciprofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibacterial active against a broad spectrum of gram positive and gram-negative ocular pathogens  The bactericidal action of ciprofloxacin results from interference with the enzyme DNA gyrase which is needed for the synthesis of bacterial DNA.
Indications
Ultiflox is indicated in the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis & keratitis, pre & post-operative use.
Dosage
Bacterial Conjunctivitis: The recommended dosage regimen for the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis is one or two drops instilled into the conjunctival sac(s) every two hours while awake for two days and one or two drops every four hours while awake for the next five days.
Contraindications
Ciprofloxacin ophthalmic solution is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of its components.
Precautions
Pregnancy
Ciprofloxacin should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.

Nursing Mothers
Ciprofloxacin appears in human milk following oral administration of the drug. Systemic absorption of ciprofloxacin may occur when applied topically. Because of the potential for serious, adverse reactions in nursing infants from ciprofloxacin, a decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing or to discontinue the drug, taking into account the importance of the drug to the mother.

Geriatric Use
No overall difference in safety or effectiveness have been observed between elderly and younger, adult patients.
Adverse Effects
The most frequently reported drug related adverse reaction was local burning or discomfort.
