Description
Tropicamide is a rapidly acting parasympatholytic drug useful in producing cycloplegia & mydriasis of short duration.
Indications
For Cycloplegia or mydriasis in any age group. Particularly effective in eyes having highly pigmented iris.
Dosage
One or two drops. Maximal cycloplegia or mydriasis has been shown to be achieved approximately 20 minutes after instillation and continuing approximately 20 minutes followed by a return to normal. Maximal mydriasis may be maintained by the instillation of drops every 30 minutes throughout the period desired.
Contraindications
This product is contraindicated in narrow-angle Glaucoma and in persons showing hypersensitivity to any component of this preparation.
Caution
Care should be taken especially in those cases where the pressure is either unknown or has been found to be high. In some cases a slight lowering of intraocular pressure may occur. However, due to short duration of action, this danger usually associated with mydriasis is probably not great.
Adverse Reactions
Increased intraocular pressure. Psychotic reactions, behavioral disturbances and cardiorespiratory collapse in children and some adults with this class of drugs have been reported. Transient stinging , dryness of the mouth, blurred vision , photophobia with or without corneal staining, tachycardia, headache, parasympathetic stimulation or allergic reaction may occur.
