Description |
Tropicamide is a rapidly acting parasympatholytic drug useful in producing cycloplegia & mydriasis of short duration. |
Indications |
For Cycloplegia or mydriasis in any age group. Particularly effective in eyes having highly pigmented iris. |
Dosage |
One or two drops. Maximal cycloplegia or mydriasis has been shown to be achieved approximately 20 minutes after instillation and continuing approximately 20 minutes followed by a return to normal. Maximal mydriasis may be maintained by the instillation of drops every 30 minutes throughout the period desired. |
Contraindications |
This product is contraindicated in narrow-angle Glaucoma and in persons showing hypersensitivity to any component of this preparation. |
Caution |
Care should be taken especially in those cases where the pressure is either unknown or has been found to be high. In some cases a slight lowering of intraocular pressure may occur. However, due to short duration of action, this danger usually associated with mydriasis is probably not great. |
Adverse Reactions |
Increased intraocular pressure. Psychotic reactions, behavioral disturbances and cardiorespiratory collapse in children and some adults with this class of drugs have been reported. Transient stinging , dryness of the mouth, blurred vision , photophobia with or without corneal staining, tachycardia, headache, parasympathetic stimulation or allergic reaction may occur. |
